Hurricane Luis 1995
Will never forget those evenings spent on the beach at Bankie Banx"s impromptu beach bar drinking rum punch and being serenaded by the great man himself.
Karen and i spent 2 weeks on the island for our honeymoon.
Luckily we left the day before the hurricane hit Anguilla causing exstensive damage......Just wondering if Bankie was blown away or is he still jamming on the beach.
Just like to say great site,brings back loads of memories
and your sooo lucky to be making Anguilla your home.

Yes, Warwick... Bankie Banx is still at it, even recently extended a nice little restaurant/beach bar right onto the beach. And, of course, he played with Jimmy Buffett during a concert at his place.
You likely would not recognize Anguilla today. Since Hurricane Luis ('95) and Lenny ('99), there is very little wooden construction. The two pretty much removed a generation of construction that thought it could never get a hurricane. They build out of concrete to high specs (as long as you don't get a bad builder) and are masters with concrete -- even the roofs. My dad's telling his story of building in the tropics here. He's way behind on keeping it up to date, but he'll finish it sooner or later. ;-)
